Never tried Vietnamese food? What is wrong with you?! If you have then you should definitely know what banh mi is. The deliciously indulgent sandwiches usually come stocked with juicy roasted pork belly, topped with fresh pickled carrot, cucumber, hot chilli and a decent amount of coriander.
A daily staple in the bustling over-crowded streets of Hanoi, banh mi is the go-to street food that is fresh, delicious and the most reknowned in Vietnam, aside from Pho that is.
If you’re a little peckish after visiting Tennoji Zoo, famished after a relax at the close-by Spa World or haven’t had your fill in the neighboring Shinsekai area (the heart of kushi-katsu) then make sure you visit Banh Mi Viet Nam – the best sandwich joint in Osaka!
A short skip and jump from Tennoji Zoo, Bánh Mỳ Việt Nam (バインミーヴィエットナム) is ready to whip you up a monster sandwich that is going to make you think ‘maybe just one more…’. With a limited menu, all banh mi come with pickled carrots, cucumber, banh mi sauce sauce as well as chilli and coriander (which is optional). You can choose your base for the sandwich – roast pork (char siu), pate, Vietnamese salami, grilled chicken, meatball or rolled egg. Do yourself a favour and grab a ‘Special Traditional Banh Mi’ and enjoy roast pork with pate; how it’s served on the streets of Vietnam.
Although this foodie favourite is only open on weekends, the small shop that seats 6 people is absolutely worth the trip. You might even find yourself grabbing a limited banh mi special, such as spicy beef with pineapple! Don’t forget to say hi to the awesome guys that run the shop Hieu and Hai!
